Agape pilgrimage
Bringing Orthodox men and Evangelical women together with the hope of Christian love.
The mission
There are too many single Evangelical women and too many single Orthodox men, so we want to bring them together. You couldn't find more opposite styles of worship yet they share a deep commitment to Christianity and shared values (plus a belief in miracles) that can be a foundation for a strong Christian marriage.
The pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is an ancient Christian practice that has become popular in recent years. We'll be doing a 6.5 mile circular walk around Winchester ending at the Cathedral following the British Pilgrimage Trust route. The walk is an opportunity to chat to fellow pilgrims as well as to connect to nature and contemplate your intention for the day (if you have one). We'll start with a prayer, stop en route for a packed lunch, go for tea and cake before attending evensong and ending with an optional pub visit.
Evensong with a cathedral choir is the most exquisite English spiritual experience and is different to both the Evangelical and Orthodox traditions.
Though aimed at single Orthodox men and Evangelical women, everyone is welcome.
The logistics
The pilgrimage will be on Saturday 14 November 2026.
We'll meet at 09.30 outside Pret in the middle of the Waterloo Station concourse. Look out for people in hiking gear and an Agape Pilgrimage sign. This is a good time to buy coffees as we won't stop for hot drinks on arrival in Winchester. We'll get a train from London Waterloo at 10.05 and the journey takes an hour, arriving at 11.03. We'll gather outside the front of Winchester Station, leaving at 11.15.
We'll be walking the Hyde Abbey to Winchester Cathedral circular walk. A link to the walk is here and contains a Google maps route you can download and follow. The pilgrimage is 6.5 miles, which will take about 3 hours plus a picnic lunch break.
After the walk we will go for tea and cake and then attend evensong at the Cathedral at 5.30pm. Afterwards there will be an optional drink in a pub.
The pilgrimage will be going ahead whatever the weather.
